IMPORTANT NOTE A466 road closure anticipated near Tintern dates Spring 2019 – week commencing 8 May for 7 weeks
There is damage to the A466 between St Arvans ( the village to Chepstow side of Tintern) and Tintern itself. This could affect arrivals to Foxes Reach from the M4 but is not likely to affect arrivals from the M5/M50
At the time of writing the damaged area has traffic lights which have next to no effect on your journey however we have heard that in spring 2019 the road will again be completely closed and diversions will be in place. We are advised that the work will start 8 May and the road will be closed for 7 weeks
If you should arrive at St Arvans from Chepstow and find that the Wye Valley A466 Road is closed this is what you should do ( it sounds dreadful but in fact only adds a very few minutes to your drive. )
At St Arvans village look for the Piercefield pub. After the pub is a stone fountain and a left turn signed Devauden Llanishen, Trellech. .Take this left turn and uphill.
If you have a satnav reset it now and tell it to take you St Arvans to Catbrook VIA Trellech.
Go straight on through the villages of Devauden and LLanishen to Trellech. On entering Trellech take the first turning right with a house called Spring Villa on the corner.. You have now joined the route which would be used by those approaching Trellech from Monmouth. See above.
