Where are Monmouthshire Cottages?

The two properties owned by Monmouthshire Cottages are in rural Monmouthshire, in the Wye Valley Natural Landscape ( previously called Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty ) in South East Wales. Each cottage has its own peaceful setting within easy reach of places like Monmouth, Usk, Abergavenny, the Brecon Beacons and of course Tintern.


2. Which cottages do you offer and how many do they sleep?

We offer two self‑catering cottages:

  • Foxes Reach  sleeping 6 plus one infant under 2
  • Tintern Abbey Cottage  sleeping 6 plus one infant under 2

Each one is let as a whole property, so you have the place to yourselves.


3. How do I check availability and book?

You can check availability and prices on our website and follow the links to book online, or you can contact us directly by email if you prefer to talk things through before booking.

4. What is the minimum stay?

Our usual minimum stay is  3 nights, though this may vary at different times of year. Short breaks are usually available .


5. What is included in the price?

Your stay includes:

  • Bed linen and bath towels
  • Heating and electricity
  • Use of the kitchen and all equipment
  • WiFi
  • Seasonal extras such as Christmas tree, spring flowers etc
  • The Hot Tub at Foxes Reach
  • Numerous small items. Please see the “whats included” page of the website for full details

There are no hidden extras or extra booking fees when you book direct with us as owners.


6. What time is check‑in and check‑out?

Check‑in is from  16.00 and check‑out is by 10.00. If you need different times, let us know and we will help if we can.


7. Are dogs or other pets allowed?

Up to 2 well‑behaved friendly dogs are welcome at each cottage .We will sometimes accept 3 if small and if the house is not booked to its human capacity. Please ask

Yes, there is private off road parking at each cottage. At Foxes Reach there is space for two cars, 3 at a push. Tintern Abbey Cottage has space for 4 cars.

8. Is parking available?

yes, private off road parking is available free of charge. At Foxes Reach there is room for 2 cars three at a push. At Tintern Abbey Cottage there is space for  up to 4 cars.


9. Is there WiFi and mobile signal?

Yes, there is WiFi at both cottages for checking emails and planning days out.  Local Mobile signal varies as you would expect in rural Wales but if you have WiFi enabled signal on your phone it will work well in the cottage.


10. Are the cottages suitable for children?

Families are welcome. The  area especially suits school‑age children and teenagers as there is loads for them to enjoy but all ages are welcome . We can provide a range of infant equipment such as travel cot/highchair and lots more free of charge  on request.


11. Are the cottages accessible for guests with limited mobility?

Our cottages are traditional Welsh buildings, so they may not be suitable for all guests with mobility issues. At Foxes Reach there are 3 steps  to the front door and the bedrooms are upstairs. At Tintern Abbey Cottage there are two easy steps to the door and a downstairs bedroom with shower over bath.  If you tell us what you need, we can advise whether the cottage will work for you.


12. What is there to do nearby?

You are well placed for walking in the Wye Valley, exploring Tintern Abbey or market towns like Monmouth and Abergavenny, visiting castles and vineyards, and driving into the Brecon Beacons National Park. Chepstow Racecourse is nearby with its racedays and busy events and concerts programme.We send ideas for local walks, places to eat and days out before your stay.


13. Do I need a car to stay with you?

A car is very useful here, as public transport is limited in rural Monmouthshire. Taxis are available locally but need booking in advance.
Tintern Abbey Cottage has a bus service which passes the door. The nearest railway station is Chepstow


14. What is your cancellation policy?

Our cancellation policy is set out during the booking process and in your confirmation email. Please read this carefully before you book. If you have any questions, ask us first and we will happily explain.

15. How do I get directions and arrival information?

Once your booking is confirmed, we send  a whole holiday guide app !  Loads of  useful practical  information  including detailed travel directions, check‑in information and our contact details so you can arrive and settle in easily.
