ICC cricket in Cardiff

Guests at Monmouthshire Cottages will be attending the ICC Cricket in Cardiff this summer. Cardiff is very easily reached from all three cottages and the world’s greatest cricket celebration is coming to Cardiff in 2019!

ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will be hosted jointly by England and Wales and takes place from 30 May to 14 July 2019.  Across forty five days and eleven venues, ten of the world’s best international teams will battle it out to win cricket’s showpiece event.  The Cardiff Wales Stadium, home to Glamorgan County Cricket Club, will host four group stage matches, featuring six different nations, some of whom will bring a significant international following, in the biggest sporting event taking place in England and Wales this summer!  The dates of the matches are –

  • Saturday 1 June – New Zealand v Sri Lanka
  • Tues 4 June – Afghanistan v Sri Lanka
  • Saturday 8 June – England v Bangladesh
  • Saturday 15 June – South Africa v Afghanistan

Cardiff will also host 4 of the warm-up matches in May.  This will be the fifth time that Wales has co-hosted the competition with England. The Cardiff Wales Stadium is certainly no stranger to ICC tournament cricket, having been a match venue for the last two editions of the ICC Champions Trophy, as well as one previous World Cup match back in 1999 (the first international match ever played there).

For those who have had enough of international Cricket there is also the enjoyment of watching Tintern Cricket Club playing in the shadow of the wonderful Tintern Abbey –  locally brewed pint in hand.
